What to Expect at Elgin
- With 8.3 roundabouts per route on average, Elgin is more roundabout-intensive than most UK centres. Route 11 has the highest concentration with 15, including Alexandra Rd.
- The 45% pass rate at Elgin is broadly in line with the national average of 47.9% — this is a fair, well-rounded test where solid all-round preparation is rewarded.

Greyfriars Street / Alexandra Road roundabout
Every route finishes by coming back through the Greyfriars Street and Alexandra Road roundabouts. These two are back-to-back, so you'll need to make consecutive exit decisions in quick succession near the very end of the test — when nerves are highest. Getting the lane or exit wrong here is one of the most common late-test faults.

High Street / Batchen Street / South Street town centre sequence
Most routes take you through the town centre via High Street, turning into Batchen Street and South Street. The right turn off High Street into the one-way system is narrow — keep your observations wide and watch for pedestrians stepping out between parked vehicles.

Station Road / Northfield Street / Maisondieu Road roundabout chain
On routes 1, 6, 8 and 11 you'll face three consecutive roundabouts at Station Road, Northfield Street and Maisondieu Road. Count your exits carefully and don't let the momentum of the chain rush you — approach each one at a controlled speed.

Lossiemouth Road / Covesea Road rural junction
Routes 1, 7, 8 and 9 take you out onto the Lossiemouth Road and the rural Covesea Road area north of town. There's an end-of-road right turn off Covesea Road onto an open road — make sure you're fully checking for oncoming traffic before pulling out.

Edgar Road / New Elgin Road roundabouts (south)
On routes 2, 5 and 11 you'll use the Edgar Road and New Elgin Road roundabouts in the south of the test area. These link to the A96 and are approached at speed from a straight road — make sure you're reading the exit signs early enough to position correctly.
