What to Expect at Kettering

  • With 8.2 roundabouts per route on average, Kettering is more roundabout-intensive than most UK centres. Route 8 has the highest concentration with 12, including Orion Way.

Orion Way and Pytchley Road are used on every route and the DTC is accessed via this roundabout pair. The return instructions consistently describe "roundabout ahead, follow left, EOR right, left" — a multi-stage re-entry that requires precise following of the route rather than guesswork. Know this sequence before test day.

A14 slip road junctions
Ten routes use the A14 via slip roads — some eastbound, some westbound. When joining the A14 you need to build speed on the slip road and merge confidently. When leaving, use the deceleration lane fully. The roundabouts immediately off the A14 slip roads require early lane selection.

Rockingham Road / A43 roundabout corridor
The Rockingham Road and A43 roundabouts appear on five routes. Routes 1 and 11 describe "roundabout ahead, roundabout left" on Rockingham Road in sequence before reaching the A43 — three or four roundabouts in close succession that need careful exit counting.

London Road / Pytchley Road / Boddington Road roundabout pair
London Road appears on 11 routes and the Pytchley Road and Boddington Road roundabouts nearby are used in combination on several. The back-to-back roundabouts here are a common source of exit confusion — "roundabout ahead, roundabout right" is the typical instruction, but double-check each time.
