Abbotsford Road roundabout sequence
Abbotsford Road is used on every route and has multiple roundabouts. You'll often go through two or three in a row before turning off — don't assume the same exit each time. The approach from the A7 adds speed to the first one, so be ready to slow earlier than feels natural.

Tweedbank roundabouts (A6091 junction)
On routes 2 and 6 you'll leave town via the A6091 and use the Tweedbank roundabouts. These are larger, bypass-style roundabouts that need a more confident approach than the town centre examples. On the way back you'll face multiple Abbotsford Road roundabouts in quick succession, so don't switch off after the bypass.

Bank Street / High Street / Island Street town centre
The town centre section through Bank Street, High Street and Island Street comes up on most routes. The one-way system and the complex junction at Island Street and Bridge Place are where incorrect positioning and observation errors are most common — plan your lane well in advance.

Ladhope Vale / Currie Road steep gradient junction
Routes 1 and 5 climb Ladhope Vale from the town centre. The junction at Currie Road on the hill requires good clutch control on the way up and controlled braking on the descent. Don't let the gradient rush your observations.

Tweed Road / Winston Road / Woodstock Avenue residential section
Tweed Road is used on all six routes and the residential streets off it — including the Winston Road roundabout and Woodstock Avenue — come up on three routes. This is a 20 mph zone, so keep a close eye on your speed and take your time at the unmarked junctions.
